5 Stone Green Capital LLC (5SGC) is an innovative organization on a mission to end homelessness for veterans in Virginia and eventually, all over the world. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs awarded 5SGC 6.8 million US dollars to pursue a prototype to end homelessness for US veterans. By working with partners Ridgewood Technology, Womble Carlisle LLP, and La Cite Development, 5SGC has developed a solution to address homelessness for US Veterans based on five drivers: lack of affordable housing, inadequate support services, no savings, poor health, and no job. The prototype incorporates “green, modular, efficient housing,” a therapeutic work environment, and social services such as job and financial training in order to address the five drivers. 5SGC uses these standards to create an environment that will benefit veterans, their families, and their cities.
Unlike other organizations with similar purpose, 5SGC places emphasis on the use of green energy to create the best environments with “integrated energy, housing, food and employment security.” The program covers many problems that go along with homelessness for veterans and their families by incorporating programs for career and personal development, as well as providing housing for those in need.
This project has the potential to better the lives of those who have served in the U.S. military, while maintaining an eco-friendly environment that may better the health conditions of entire communities. The prototype is modeled so that it may be applied to any community, regardless of location. Potentially, 5SGC may reach across the globe to provide homes, resources, and coaching to the entire world.
