YikeBike
YikeBike is an organization dedicated to providing an alternative source of transportation to solve the problem of congested transport in crowded cities. Bicycles remain the most popular transport device in the world after 120 years with unchanged design. After observing the shortcomings of traditional two wheel bikes, the creators of YikeBike set out to create a sustainable alternative inspired by the Segway to help commuters move around urban cities.
The YikeBike model is effectively the world’s smallest, lightest electric folding bicycle. Combining an electric power tool with a bicycle, YikeBike created a bike that is one quarter the weight of the Segway and costs only a third of the price. The YikeBike is small and portable enough to be used by urban residents living in small apartments and taking cramped public transportation. It can be folded into a convenient carrying size, stored under a desk, and charged using a common three prong plug.
Already sold in 42 countries, YikeBike seeks to expand its market in Europe, Asia, and South America through mass production. Moving production to a larger scale will further drive down production costs and consumer price, helping the YikeBike transition from a novelty to a realized commuting option.
