Ignitia provides highly accurate weather forecasts to small scale farmers in West Africa to better manage water resources and suitably time farming activities such as application of pesticides, fertilizer etc. The innovation lies firstly in their forecast accuracy, which is twice as accurate as global models for tropical areas, and secondly, in the text-lite SMS format they send the forecasts in. As 95% of agriculture in Africa is rain-fed, with better business intelligence provided by Ignitia at very nominal pay-as-you-go subscription costs, a farmer can double his yield by as much as 80% and increase his income.
The equator'weather is very unstable and e1treme weather often occurs which is difficult to predict. This poses a threat to both personal and property security.
They produce local-based and highly-accurate weather forecasts for the tropics. They try to reduce residents' risk by planning around weather events.
Their weather forecast model is twice as accurate as global models. Most residents choose to subscribe. Cost is small and no smartphones are required.
Their technology is subject to the telecommunication signal. Some equatorial regions may lack enough telecommunication infrastructure and this service cannot be guaranteed.
E1treme weather conditions are frequent in equatorial regions, posing a significant threat to the personal and property security (mainly crops) of the local population. Ignitia provides very accurate real-time weather forecasts for residents, effectively intervening positively in their agricultural production and other aspects of life and thus reducing their potential losses. Ignitia's weather forecast service does not require a smartphone. It is based on GPS to send instant messages to subscribers. Residents are notified in advance to adjust their production activities in a timely manner, to minimize losses. Ignitia follows the model of pay-as-you-go, with subscribers paying nothing more. Their weather forecast service, which operates locally, is far more accurate than other forecasting channels, attracting most residents to subscribe to it in the areas covered by it. This service has brought a very important positive impact on the highly-vulnerable local agricultural production.
