One of the biggest challenges of building with shipping containers is insulating the structures so that they can be used as homes, offices or shelters.
Using a unique industrial line system, shipping containers can be mass retrofitted with insulation, then sent on to designers to be used as living spaces.
The industrial process eliminates the need for costly custom-made retrofits and allows those intereted in using shipping containers to have better ready access to needed materials.
In order to build a sustainable supply chain, connections must e1ist with designers to do final upgrades; not clear how far along this process is.
Creating sustainable construction and housing within communities will involve the creative reuse of materials already in the environment. Shipping containers have been recognized for their potential reusein a variety of construction projects and have seen some growth in the use in recent years. A key barrier to their wider adoption, however, has been the need for custom-made insulation solutions for the containers and a lack of a pre-made base in this regard. Having the production process in place to send shipping containers that are readyto be used in construction out of the bo1 lessens the costs for construction companies and designers, and can help the materials be more quickly utilized.
