Rubbish landfill site is the size of 36 football pitches. Wastes have polluted rivers, emitted greenhouse gas, and a landslide killed 114 people in '17.
SOLUTION
A new power plant will supply 30% of Addis Ababa’s household energy needs and incinerate roughly 80% of its rubbish.

IMPACT
Reppie is Africa’s first waste-to-energy plant in Addis Ababa, which will reduct toxic and dangerous landfill of wastes while powering urban homes. Samuel Alemayehu who oversees the $120 million project says the plant will supply 30% of Addis Ababa’s household energy needs and incinerate roughly 80% of its rubbish. That's 1,400 tons of waste every day. Plant: Ethiopia
